How To Communicate Your Strengths in an Interview - Classy Career Girl
How To Communicate Your Strengths in an Interview Welcome to CCGTV! This is a daily video show where I answer your questions! Every weekday on YouTube, Iâll be answering YOUR questions and I am super excited!! If you have a question you would like me to answer on a future episode of CCGTV, leave a comment below or email me at anna@classycareergirl.com. Question: How do you communicate your strengths in an interview? -Sarah The most important thing during an interview is to think about your strengths in terms of accomplishments. I recommend all of my students put everything they have done previously in internships and prior jobs into work experience stories. First, list your work and other experiences by position and industry. Include your volunteer experiences and any college activities or groups that you joined. Now, for each position held, write one or more work experience stories. This is a very important task because it will help you prepare your resume and answer interview questions! The three elements of a work experience story are: 1. Challenge or circumstance when you began the project or task. 2. Action you took to create a result or solve a problem. 3. Result that followed, quantified whenever possible. If you can go through this and put your strengths into accomplishments and work experience stories, youll be very prepared for your interview. What good is a strength if you dont actually show that you are using it to get results and make a difference with your work. If I was interviewing you, I would want to know your strengths. But, even more important I would want to see what actual results you have received with those strengths in your prior roles. I want to see that you have done some self-assessment to know what your strengths are and that you are using them to get actual results. Click here to get your free interview answers cheat sheet.

How to Write a Resume - An Important Item to Consider When Writing a Job Posting
How to Write a Resume - An Important Item to Consider When Writing a Job PostingIn the realm of resume writing, you have to think that you are the one who has done what you've done, not what you've achieved. The resume writer knows that to sell themselves, it's important to put themselves in the company of people who are in the same position as them.Your resume is probably the most important document you'll ever write. It will be a representative piece of your work history. You should take care not to be lost in the shuffle and end up writing your own resume! How to write a resume is a topic that gets many people asking 'What do I write?'. So I am going to give you some pointers on this.To begin with, you can't discuss your most recent project as this is most likely the first project you have worked on in your career. Instead you should mention the most recent projects you have completed and any mistakes or success stories you had working with that project. If you do not mention a pro ject that has been completed recently then the prospective employer won't have much idea of how you might respond to their need for a resume writing. How to write a resume is the process of getting your name out there by telling employers what you've done.To begin with, you'll want to consider writing a resume for yourself. You may not want to list the things you've done for other people. However, many people mistakenly assume that a resume should include a complete history of all their projects, be it personal or professional.A good resume will detail every job you've ever held and it must also state exactly what skills you bring to the job. How to write a resume is to leave room for employers to get to know you. It is vital that you carefully check the skill areas that you deem necessary to your role. For example, if you're a skilled crafts person then mention this in your resume. If you're a project manager then highlight this as well. Even if you've completed multiple projects in a row and won an award for your previous projects, it is still wise to highlight what you've done to date. Remember, employers want to know why you've increased productivity.Your resume should be short and sweet when it comes to describing how to write a resume. The cover letter or personal letter will provide more information. So you see, the only difference between resumes and letters is the letter.

5 Important Things to Know When Applying for a Job in Australia - CareerAlley
5 Important Things to Know When Applying for a Job in Australia - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Over the last decade, Australia has maintained its position as one of the strongest rated sovereigns in the world. In 2016, Fitch Ratings reported that the countrys remarkable credit rating stems from its high economic income, strong institutions, effective governance, and the growing recognition of the Australian dollar as a reserve currency. Australias booming economy allowed for more infrastructure and public projects to be created, leading to more job opportunities. Whether youre a fresh graduate looking for his first job, a professional looking to change careers, or a skilled migrant planning to work in Australia, here are 5 important things you can consider: Be Familiar with the Australian Job Market and Culture Foreigners who want to work and eventually migrate to Australia need to do a lot of research into the countrys job market and its culture in general. Aside from providing information about visa requirements, the Australian governments official websites also give an overview of the countrys culture, educational system, environment, industries, and job opportunities. Proper research about the country would benefit any potential workers because employers appreciate foreign applicants who are well versed with their workplace ethics and practices. Strengthen Your English Proficiency Communication skills are important in any workplace. Most employers place a high value on the applicants ability to speak efficiently. Even locals who have resided in the country for a long time would do well to update their English skills. Lack of confidence in communicating can create difficulties such as social withdrawal and career compromise. An English proficiency test is usually conducted for foreigners who want to migrate in the country. It will also be advantageous for migrants to familiarise themselves with the Australian vernacular so that theyll be able to know the meaning of words like chockers, mozzie, ripper, arvo, bottle-o, servo, slab, and other useful daily terms. Conversing daily with a native speaker will also help in building your vocabulary and help you gaining confidence in speaking the language. Create an Impressive Resume An individuals resume is his primary introduction to any prospective employer. It should be written well in order to leave a lasting impression with the hiring committee. A great resume should reflect the applicants knowledge of the industry hes trying to get into, and contain his detailed work history and accomplishments. It should also show the individuals creativity and passion for the job hes applying for. Most companies would also require cover letters to be submitted with the resume. Make sure both your cover letter and resume are free of grammar and spelling errors. Paying attention to little details such as these reflect positively on the applicant, giving their prospective employer a glimpse into their good work ethics. Access the Hidden Job Market According to Melbourne-based career coach Naishadh Gadani, only 17.2% of the jobs are advertised in Australia. 83% of these jobs are unadvertised or part of Australias hidden job market. While some companies use e-Recruitment systems or advertise through newspapers, most of the job positions available are not being made public. Locals and migrant workers can tap into this hidden job market through volunteering, attending career fairs, enrolling in online courses, applying to international and national recruiting agencies, building a network, or simply applying in person to Australian companies. Build on Your Qualifications and Skills Even with a big number of talent shortage and job listings available in Australia, an applicant will still need to compete with thousands of other candidates to get the job. Building on your existing skills gives you the extra edge over your competitors. Locals who are looking to change careers would benefit from taking extra courses or updating their knowledge on various software and technological tools they can use in the workplace. Migrants who want to secure a job in Australia will benefit more if they have their skills assessed through an RPL or Recognition of Prior Learning process, whether their trade is horticulture, patisserie, commercial cookery, events management, or travel and tourism. This will help you in having your skills officially certified or recognised, giving you a better chance in being noticed by prospective employers. The government also has Skill Select, an online service that helps the country manage its skilled migration program. This service prioritises people who have skills, qualifications, and experience and evaluates them if they can be granted a skilled migrants visa. Australia offers a lot of job opportunities, especially for skilled individuals. Both locals and migrant workers would benefit from doing exhaustive research into the culture and current job market environment. Job hunting can be a tiresome and major feat, but keeping these 5 important things in mind will guide any applicant in securing their dream job in Australia. Creative Resumes - How Far Do They REALLY Go - Pathfinder Careers
Creative Resumes - How Far Do They REALLY Go - Pathfinder Careers Creative Resumes How Far Do They REALLY Go? Creative resumes, when you first see them, are amazing creatures to behold. Sleek lines. Dazzling graphics. Amazing charts. Eye-catching colors. Creative layouts. But thatâs what they are. Eye candy for human resource / hiring managers or recruiters who are so tired of boring old formats that their eyeballs are about ready to fall out of their sockets. So if creative resumes makes it onto the desk or inbox of the potential employer, chances are that the reader will perk up. âAha!,â they exclaim. âFinally something INTERESTING to look at!â True fact: the purpose of a resume is to get the attention of the prospective employer. But hereâs the catch. Thereâs a second purpose of a resume. It has to make someone want to pick up the phone and call you. Which means that despite all the eye glitter they are ingesting from creative resumes, employers still have to read between the lines. You have to SHOW that you can actually do the job. And that, my friends, is where content really is king. All bedazzlements aside, at the end of the day, substance has to be the last one standing. You canât rely on dazzling the employer with B.S. You have to have the content to match, otherwise, you are no better than the most odious click bait if you go the creative resumes route. And another thing that job seekers tend to forget: if fed into online application systems, oftentimes, creative resumes end up getting vomited out the other side. The software simply canât digest it. So hereâs your strategy should you go the creative resumes route: Develop great creative resumes that have substantive content that means something to your target audience. Only give that resume to a REAL LIVE HUMAN. Have the more traditionally-formatted resume ready to feed the hungry ATS monster. Network like hell! Looks and looks alone canât seal the deal. You have to be able to do the job, and thatâs where the content really makes the case.
